Services

SMEC provides the following pro bono services: mentoring, technical consulting, partnership development, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium at UKC, STEM Partnership program, Summer Faculty program, and Student Intern program.

Mentoring

SMEC offers collective mentoring over broad areas of business development and market expansion utilizing KSEA’s nationwide network and alumni. Examples include local ecosystems, business contacts, business culture, etc.

Technical Consulting

KSEA is a unique professional organization whose members come from all areas of science and engineering. When finding an expert is difficult in a given discipline, SMEC will work for you to find that expert utilizing the KSEA membership database.

Partnership Development

SMEC will help arrange for SMEs and KSEA members to form partnerships to go for federal/private funding such as SBIR/STTR. It will also help SMEs find other SMEs to work together as partners.

IES-SPC

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium (IES) and Startup Pitch Competition (SPC) is held annually at the US-Korea Conference (UKC) on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship to discuss and exchange ideas on recent developments in business, technology, and policy, and to encourage budding entrepreneurs. We provide mentoring to the SPC finalists. UKC is an excellent platform to market new products and network with other SMEs, startups, and researchers.

STEM Partnership Program

The goals of the STEM Partnership Program are three-fold: to help prepare K-12 students for the future of creativity and innovation, to provide a marketing platform for STEM-related SMEs, and to offer STEM internships to college students. We accomplish these goals by hosting the following three events: STEM Summer Camp, STEM Fair, and STEM Internships.

Summer Faculty

Most university faculty are free to work on any research of their choosing during the summer. SMEC will find faculty members with the right expertise to work at interested SMEs during this period. KSEA will handle all legal and financial matters necessary for such arrangements.

Student Interns

Student interns would be an excellent way of finding future employees. Furthermore, they could serve as a bridgehead for opening new markets. Interns come not only from the US but also from Korea.
